Venice is a dream city for romantics. You can get lost among winding cobbled streets, drift lazily along narrow canals, and share a delicious meal under the twinkling lights of a small restaurant. Unfortunately, millions of people share the same romantic vision and flock to Venice in hoards, particularly in summer. Arriving in the city in spring or fall is a better option, as the streets are less crowded and Venice hotels offer better deals. So don’t shy away from this charming city, but choose your travel dates wisely and book hotels well in advance.

Deluxe Room at Venice Bb
The best acommodation on this list, in my humble opinion, is the Deluxe Room at Venice-Bb-Venezia. The host, Alessandro, offers a hotel-like stay in a cozy 15th century apartment. Here, you’ll enjoy a lovely garden view and a simple but cosy space. Each of the two rooms also features a stocked mini-fridge and free Wi-Fi. The real draw here, however, is the hospitality. Alessandro treats his guests to a decadent daily breakfast and fantastic local recommendations. Located in quiet Cannaregio, you’ll be just a few minutes’ walk from the train station.
Hotel La Fenice Et Des Artistes
If you want to be in the center of it all, consider staying at Hotel La Fenice Et Des Artistes. Each room features a unique blend of charming Venetian design and modern conveniences like climate control and satellite TV. The quaint on-site restaurant, the Taverna, offers up elegant meals indoors or out in the courtyard garden. While the hotel can be pricy during high season, the autumn rates are a serious steal. You also can’t beat the location, just a few minutes from La Fenice Opera House and San Marco Square.
Cozy and Private Mini Apartment
For those seeking a more tranquil stay and the self-catering possibilities of your own apartment, consider the Mini Apartment in Dorsoduro. You’ll enjoy a wide range of amenities, from a fully equipped kitchenette to free Wi-Fi. The location is the major draw here, as you’ll be in the “real Venice,” outside of major tourist tracks. Fantastic local restaurants and squares nearby are touristy and offer a more authentic experience.
The true luxury option on our list, the Colombina Hotel offers the best of all worlds. Enjoy fantastic views of the canal and famous Bridge of Sighs right from your room. Live like royalty in lush, Venetian-style rooms with dramatic colors and premium bedding. Then treat yourself to the free buffet breakfast in the morning before heading off to all the famous sites within easy walking distance, such as San Marco Square and the Doge’s Palace.
For a tranquil hotel stay, consider the small Casa Mimma bed and breakfast. Here, you’ll find charming Venetian style worked into every little detail, from the quaint tables and chairs in the garden to the plush linens found in the guest rooms. Spend your afternoons in the brightly lit rooms overlooking the courtyard or wander along the streets of Santa Croce, where you’ll find beautiful old churches nestled among the cobbled streets.
Whatever holiday vibe you’re looking for, you’ll be sure to find it in the romantic city of Venice.
